Congratulations Mario, On Receiving The Long Service Award; Remarkable 35-years To The NHS :: Pimlico Plumbers

A Pimlico Plumbers veteran, and my Executive Personal Assistant Mario Rebellato, had the honour of receiving The Long Service Award for his remarkable 35-years contribution to Guy's and St Thomas’ Hospital.

Mario - who has been my PA for 11 years - has been an inspiration to us all at Pimlico, and we couldn’t have been happier to celebrate his continuous service at the award ceremony laid on by the hospital, for all long term volunteers.

It was a great afternoon, where we sat listening to the most inspiring stories, but we were extremely proud as a company to support Mario, who was declared “the man of the hour” by hospital staff; as the longest serving volunteer of the event.

Mario spends every Sunday at The Evelina London Children’s Hospital, as a helping hand to give the nurses and doctors that much needed respite. Walking through the Mountain Ward (which specialises in surgical care and is home to the hospital’s High Dependency Unit), Mario was like a local celebrity. The medical staff and families were all over the moon when they saw him, congratulating Mario on his service and thanking him for his vital contributions.

We met Clare Allberry who is a Nurse and Clinical Teacher in the Department of Child & Family Health – whose gratitude towards Mario was so strong you could feel it!

Mario previously worked for John Prescott, the Deputy Prime Minister from 1997 to 2006, in The Housing Department before having to retire as a Civil Servant at the age of 65. After seeing an article about Buster, Britain’s oldest worker, Mario sent me an email to be Buster’s understudy. But I thought he would be better suited as my PA, and after 11 years, I’d say it’s been a winning partnership!

I talk often about getting rid of the stigma attached to older workers, and Mario is the perfect example of an older, enthusiastic worker who brings a lot of credibility to a business and is respected by both colleagues and customers. Mario shows no sign of slowing down, and if you ask me, we need more people in the world with Mario’s love for life and compassion towards others!

At Pimlico we plan to celebrate this incredible achievement, taking Mario's nearest and dearest colleagues to my favourite restaurant in Mayfair, Langans Brasserie!!
