Are you a Climate Revolutionary or a Fossil Fuel Loyalist?

Are you a Climate Revolutionary or a Fossil Fuel Loyalist?

It is the Independence Day holiday weekend in the US  and I am calling on all Climate Revolutionaries to join me.         This letter was delayed as I was writing from the backwoods of Big Sur California shown what lengths they will go to It takes two minutes lead to swelling our ranks Tell them Climate action cannot just be a hobby in which we dabble when convenient The climate-change driven extreme weather events here over the past two months have shown the devastation and pain that can come from just 1.2 degrees of warming and that we are not moving anywhere close to fast enough to transition off of fossil fuels. Standing in our way are the juggernauts of the fossil fuel industry who have shown what lengths they will go to in order to delay or kill progress. With key politicians seemingly in their pocket, we cannot rely upon the current federal government to pass meaningful climate legislation and so must destroy demand for their product from the ground up until we can replace those who quibble, dither, nitpick, and otherwise starve aggressive climate bills of their momentum and support.  We, the climate revolutionaries aggressively push for change at all levels, but too many in this movement have shifted their gaze and attention to the shiny new Presidency and its promises, ignoring the strategic importance that personal actions can have in leading to the systemic change that we need.  We cannot cry for federal EV standards but hold onto our gas guzzlers.  We cannot call for others to shift their deposits away from Chase or other fossil-fuel funding banks whilst our own still adds to the cheap flow of capital to extractive industries. It takes two minutes to begin moving money away from funding further climate change. E-bikes, EVs, solar panels — these are all externally visible actions that show where you stand and lead to swelling our ranks with climate allies, advocates, and even additional revolutionaries. And what about the hidden work? You can move your money silently, or switch from fossil-gas appliances to electric heat pump heating and induction cooking and enjoy the health, convenience, and safety benefits all by yourself, but those benefits amplify when you talk to your friends and family about them.  Tell them how much you love that you now have better heat control when cooking and that water boils twice as fast. Tell them how marvelous it is to get heating and cooling from your heat pump, an air-conditioner that works in both directions. We need to show our government leaders that there is demand for this change and for massive expenditures to build a stronger, more innovative, and more resilient America. We must show them with our actions, not just our words through calls and petitions.  Calling by voters (and I hope you are one) is incredibly important though to let them know that you’ve made the switch and want the rest of the country to also share in the same benefits. If you do not vote and are instead “only a constituent”, you will be able to exert less pressure on them. As one political organizer told me, “A constituent lives in their district, a voter decides if they keep their job”. If you are unsure of how to start, what you can do with what you have, or what is the next highest leverage task you can take, please reach out and I will help in whatever way that I can. , we need to incorporate it into our lives fully and show others how they too can affect change for in order to change everything, we need everyone. Let 2021 be the start of your own Climate Revolution — throw off the yoke of fossil fuel reliance, recruit others to join us, and let us together achieve the future that we know is possible.    I am grateful to have you on this journey with me,
