NOTE: The feature previously called Door & Window Control is now called "pause when doors or windows open"
To save money and energy, ecobee automatically pauses heating or cooling when a door or window with a SmartSensor for doors and windows is open for 5 minutes or more. A notification is sent with information about which SmartSensor for doors and windows has been left open. When a door or window has been closed again for at least 30 seconds, heating and cooling resumes.
When your heating or cooling is paused, the eco+ icon will show on your app and thermostat.
You can override this automation from the push notification directly, or by clicking on the eco+ icon on your app or thermostat and turning the system back on.
You can also select which sensors are participating in this feature. To adjust these settings, open the ecobee app, select a thermostat from your list of devices, and then do the following:
By default, all SmartSensors for doors and windows paired to the chosen thermostat will be selected. Unselecting all sensors will turn the feature off completely.
How do I access this feature?
In order to utilize the Pause when doors or windows open feature, please ensure you have the following:
If you have a SmartSensor for doors and windows, but have not yet started your ecobee Haven free trial, you will be able to see this feature appear under your eco+ settings. From there you can start your ecobee Haven free trial and get access to the feature.
Note: This feature is not affected by the eco+ savings preferences slider.
I paired my SmartSensor for doors and windows to my SmartCamera with voice control. Do I have to repair my sensor to my ecobee thermostat for the pause when doors or windows open feature to work?
No, the pause when doors or windows open feature will function regardless of whether or not your SmartSensors for doors or windows are paired to a thermostat or a SmartCamera with voice control.
Does my thermostat have to be connected online all the time for this feature to work?
If the thermostat is not connected to the internet, the HVAC will not pause when a SmartSensor for doors and window is open for more than 5 minutes.
However, if a door or window with a participating SmartSensor for doors and windows is open once internet returns, the pause when doors or windows open feature will engage immediately and the HVAC will pause.
If a SmartSensor for doors or windows is open and triggers the thermostat to pause, and then the internet is lost, the HVAC will still resume when the door or window sensor is closed.
