Johnson Controls expands design and installation expertise with purchase of Cool Solution - Refrigeration and Air Conditioning

Diverse manufacturer Johnson Controls. which claims to have 'the largest portfolio of HVAC equipment and controls in the world', has bought cooling contractor Cool Solution for an undisclosed sum.

The integration of the 17-year-old commercial building specialist, with bases in Cardiff and Tewkesbury, will enhance Johnson Controls’ HVAC offering across multiple customer segments, while also allowing the business to benefit from its design and project management capabilities, the manufacturer said.

Cool Solution offers design, installation and maintenance services across HVAC and refrigeration to commercial buildings from offices to retail to hotels.

In addition, Johnson Controls notes that Cool Solution’s strength in supplying packaged air conditioning solutions to the office retrofit market – including strong relationships with interior design and fit-out firms – will allow it to further diversify its portfolio of HVAC solutions.

Gail Hunter, general manager of HVAC Solutions at Johnson Controls UK&I said, “I am thrilled to welcome Cool Solution into the Johnson Controls family. The team has created a strong business across Wales and the South West, and they will be an invaluable asset in helping to serve our nationwide customer base.”

The purchase will see no immediate changes to day-to-day operations of the business until both leadership teams formulate their medium and long-term plan. All 25 members of staff will continue working at the company in the same office locations, with managing director Matt Williams and Midlands director Steve Shilcock remaining at the helm to oversee the Cool Solution brand. In addition, director Tony Williams will remain as a consultant to support a seamless integration.

Matt Williams, who set Cool Solution up in 2003, said,“I am confident the integration of Cool Solution and Johnson Controls will be a benefit not only to customers, but to our teams too. After 17 years growing the company into what it is today, it is hugely comforting to secure the continued success of the business. Thanks to our shared core values, I’m certain that the group has an amazing future ahead.”
